Welcome to Catland!

Catland aims to present a simple, but accurate, view of how quantum particles behave.

This is a work in progress. We’ll start with the basics, and (hopefully) build up to a coherent picture of how familiar classical reality emerges from the quantum world.

The name Catland is a reference to both Schrödinger’s cat, and to Edwin A. Abbott’s novella Flatland. Whereas Flatland provides intuitive illustration of ideas related to spatial dimensions, here we try to illustrate through examples the many-dimensional quantum world of Schrödinger’s cat, who is famously alive and dead at the same time.
